Hella Norcal Dopeness >>> Fabian Fernandez’s turbo KA S14
Fabian Fernandez has only been drifting since last November, but he’s already making a name for himself. After years of dirt kart racing, sprint car racing, and motocross, Fabian was already comfortable sliding around. His girlfriend Amber took him to see Formula D in Sonoma in 2007 and he was hooked.
I met Fabian when I was hanging out at BRRacing one day, and he came by to pick up some stuff. Luke said, “Hey Drew, this guy bought Ryan Sagisi’s car,” and so I asked him, “What the hell did you do that for?”
That was because the car fell victim to a K-rail at Motoring J-Style in 2008, destroying most of the front end of the car. Fabian spent the better part of 2009 replacing stuff and fixing stuff. Luckily the turbo KA was not damaged. Not the important parts anyway.
This KA is force-fed to over 300hp by a Garrett GT3071R, mounted to a JGS turbo manifold. Believe it or not, the block is not modified internally, and is still going strong!
Fabian finally got the car to a good driftable condition, took it to a shakedown skidpad event, and then took it out to ThunderDrift’s annual December competition, where he won the award for “Best Schrapple” because the car made the same sound as dropping a shot glass into a garbage disposal. What??
Fabian liked real drifting, so he decided to compete in ThunderDrift ProAm and Top Drift ProAm in 2010. That meant he needed a cage, so he went to Blu808 for all the chassis treatment and a whole slew of other modifications. After that he brought the car to Lab17 for graphics. He didn’t have a kit, so he got something mild. Then he got a used kit for $200, took the car to Fleet Body Worx in San Jose for paint, and came back for something WILD. Good thing he decided to get the new graphics after All Star Bash X, where he traded paint with Ryan Kado and a few other guys. We were able to kinda fix most of the damage.
Fabian also likes to rep his friends, so he has a bunch of bumper stickers on his back window! That OMGDRIFT sticker is a one-off I made just for him. What do you think? Should OMGDRIFT sell those??
You guys should know all about Bob’s Donuts by now. Fabian was even one of the guys watching Top Gear in the Bob’s Donuts story!
Watch out for Fabian as he finishes up ThunderDrift and Top Drift this year, because he’s going to do it all over again next year!
